The Power
of Many
There are two differing maxims about the power of numbers...
the first is "One person can make a difference" and the second is "The
energy of intent is greatly multiplied in direct proportion to the
number of minds that are added". It is this last statement that I will
address in this article.
Jesus is given credit for stating that when
two or more are gathered in the Father's name, then the common desire
of those present is multiplied ten fold. Let us look at this in
relation to 'healing'. As Reiki masters, we have often placed our
hands on someone's body and given a full body treatment that lasted
for an hour or more. And we did see some change in the condition that
we treated. But when we call together other practitioners for a Reiki
Circle, then it is our experience that a much greater flow of energy
happens and of course more change is apparent. And if there is a
complete letting go of any and all desire for a particular outcome as
a result of the treatment, and it is given to Spirit as is deemed best
and in the Highest good for the recipient, then the recipient often
states the treatment was exactly what was needed. We have repeatedly
seen greater benefits from treatments when there are several
practitioners participating in one common purpose. This being the
case, it stands to reason, that the more practitioners sending energy
to a situation or condition, the faster the clearing and re-balancing
that occurs. So let us look as some examples that we have personally
observed. Not too long ago, we received a healing request from an
internet friend, seeking added help from as many practitioners that
would agree to assist. The work was desperately needed for his wife
who was dying and not expected to live through the night. A general
cry for help went out through the Distant Healing Network (DHN), the
Reiki mailing lists, the Reiki newsgroups, and was submitted to other
non-Reiki prayer and energy volunteer groups and of course, some of
these group's members passed this request on to their personal Reiki
friends listed in their chat programs and email lists. Within a few
short hours, there were many practitioners from all around the world
who began working the case. And not only did the woman/recipient of
the work make it through the night, she lived for another four weeks,
which was enough time for members of the family to come together at
her bedside, to heal their relationships with this lovely being and to
make stronger the relationships between the survivors. Such a
wondrous process for all that participated and for the woman who had
the extra time to set her house in order, before making her
transition. We all should be so fortunate to have this kind of
experience and unconditional love from so many people when we make our
transition. Perhaps this experience could be the platform on which a
group of volunteers could be structured to assist anyone in transition
so they would not have to die alone.
Another example comes from
earlier in our traveling days together. We have so many wonderful
friends all over the United States that we visited in our travels. In
one city, there were many Reiki practitioners and the teacher who
attuned many of them, who used her files to send out a letter asking
if they would like to be a part of a large 'on-call' volunteer group
that could send 'absentee treatments' to serious/life-threatening
situations that needed immediate attention. The answers were
overwhelmingly positive. Within a week, everyone received a list of
all the volunteers with the instruction that any practitioner knowing
a person who had an emergency need for treatments/energy would call
the first person on the list, who would be responsible for calling the
person listed beneath their name, giving only the barest of
information about the recipient in need. The information passed on
was: first and last NAME, AGE (approximate if exact was unknown,
LOCATION (city, state, country, name of hospital/nursing home, etc.)
and CONDITION (name of condition or brief description of symptoms).
Often this information would just be left on someone's answering
machine and worked when they received their messages. I remember, we
were traveling, and a very long-time friend's daughter was involved in
a motorcycle accident. Being a Reiki practitioner himself, he rode in
the ambulance with his daughter and told his girlfriend to call
around looking for us, that we would know what to do to help. Well,
the girlfriend made several phone calls and did track us down and told
us of the accident. We had her look for the list of Reiki volunteers
that he kept near the phone, and had her call the first name on the
list and to keep calling until she found someone at home, who could
then take over the calling. Within a few hours, there were probably 30
or more Reiki practitioners sending the injured girl absentee Reiki
treatments. Within a week of a very serious operation to correct the
damage, the healing was so speeded up that the doctor had to remove
the stitches and pronounced the girl to be out of danger and today,
this girl is in perfect health with no difficulties as a result of the
accident or the surgery. And yet another case from the same volunteer
group in the same city..... one of the volunteers was visiting
out-of-state friends when he had a life-threatening motorcycle
accident that drove the handlebar through his liver. He was in serious
condition and not expected to pull through. His family was notified
and his girlfriend immediately grabbed the list and began putting the
information out to the list-members. Back at the hospital, doctors
were checking the young man every few minutes, and kept feeling his
skin for fever; and his body always felt like it was burning up, so
the doctors would have the nurses take his temperature, and it was
found to be normal at most times. The young man survived and is
leading a normal life, albeit estranged from motorcycles. These few
stories indeed help us to understand that there is power in numbers...
.mountains can be moved when many people put their minds and energy on
the task of re-arranging the hilly landscape.
We are just beginning
to research and are on the threshold of understanding the power of the
mind.... and each of you reading this article have experienced
success in situations when others of similar thought/desire have
gathered to focus on a common goal.
We hope that our readers will
want to start a Reiki volunteer group in your own community and
perhaps in the greater 'world community' of Reiki practitioners. It is
going to take a bit of logistics, time and energy to create a strong
foundation of compassionate 'Reiki' volunteers, but we are willing to
help out if the call is felt in your heart. Please contact us via
email and place your name into the hat.... let us show the world that
Reiki can and is making a difference. We need a letter composed that
easily explains this concept and asks for participation from all
second degree and above Reiki practitioners in all countries, and in
all languages. When we have a workable letter, we need to send it
throughout the world via the internet; through newsgroups, mailing
lists, chat rooms, bulletin boards, and email. The more ways we have
of contacting practitioners in fast manner, the stronger, more
effective the efforts. This is just designed for "life-threatening"
cases, and is not expected to initially have a constant in-flow of
requests. If this later turns out to be the case, then perhaps groups
can be formed from the general membership that would specifically work
with 'natural disasters', 'weather-related situations', 'burdens on
world eco-systems','culture-related stresses' (i.e., crime, riots,
racial tensions, slavery, human suffering, war, etc.). I believe that
there is a 'crucial mass number' of participants that need to work on
each situation/case most effectively and to add more than that number
would not add greater benefit, and it is through feedback from the
media as well as participating members that this number will be
determinable. With good record/file keeping, this information coupled
with other research projects and individual journal entries from
practitioner's personal Reiki work will help the governmental agencies
look more seriously at Reiki; as a complementary adjunct to standard
medical therapies/modalities and as coverage under insurance plans. We
are on the brink of a new consciousness in human lifestyles..... will
you be a fore-runner and help to birth the dream....or wait on the
side-lines to see if it happens?
