Reiki and Responsibility (part II)

I have
seen many care-givers do and say some pretty irresponsible things in
the name of healing:

Telling a client that Reiki will heal any and
all dis-eases
Telling a suffering person that Reiki will keep them
alive
Asking a client to foresake professional, medical
attention
Over-charging for Reiki/energy treatments, especially if
treatments will be numerous over a continued time period
Treating a
condition once or twice, often for only a few minutes, expecting Reiki
to completely eliminate the dis-ease
Treating someone only as long as
it is convenient to a practitioner
Teaching by rote the techniques
and methods contained within Reiki, without first extensively
practicing on self doesn’t teach students to explore the potentials of
Reiki.
So what are some of the responsibilities of being Reiki
practitioners? Well, in my opinion, responsibility rests with each
student of Reiki. It is the student’s responsibility:

To seek a "good
and knowledgeable" teacher
To work with that teacher until nothing
more can be learned (mentoring)
To ask for a teacher’s personal
experiences from their own self-practice and in their service to
others
To ask for information uncovered in the teacher’s extended
research of Reiki
To ask a teacher to help and give guidance in
becoming a successful Reiki practitioner
Practicing Reiki
self-treatments to learn what Reiki will do to aid "relaxation,
purification, re-establishing energy/balance " within the
healing/wholing process"
To seek additional levels of training when
ready.
To read published books and professional articles on Reiki
To
attend Reiki shares/circles to gain further ‘hands-on’ experience
To
talk with other practitioners and teachers
To know what is happening
in the Reiki and medical communities
To talk intelligently with others
who seek knowledge about Reiki
To teach clients about the "exchange
of energy"- the sharing of something of equal value in exchange for
treatments received. This helps all people to recognize the value of
Reiki and to value the practitioners who administer treatments. This
also teaches people to value themselves as recipients of this
wonderful spiritual energy technique.
By no means are the above
suggestions the sum total of all responsibilities in practicing the
art of Reiki. But it is a fair standard in which to look at your own
practice to see how you might be able to improve yourself and the
quality of your work. I think that we have been handed quite a "
responsibility" by Creator; through the agents of Sensei’s Usui,
Hayashi, Takata and all previous Reiki instructors. We stand on a
threshold of a new level of consciousness, with responsibility unlike
any time before… that of the healing/wholing of all the people of
Earth. This is only going to work if we dedicate ourselves to living
the principles of Reiki, pulling together in presenting Reiki to every
sentient life form. I commend to all Reiki practitioners the
monumental task that lies in our foreseeable future.
