Reiki Volunteering Update:
Ohio Aids Coalition Healing Weekend 2006
We have just finished another Healing Weekend with OAC - Ohio Aids Coalition. It was a Friday-Saturday-Sunday Retreat for people affected by HIV/AIDS, the purpose of which is to provide a time and space for Healing, Nurturing, Understanding and Empowerment. The participants are encouraged to participate in workshops focused on Getting to Know each other - The trials and similar experiences that everyone shares. They are also encouraged to participate in the receiving of Reiki and Massage. The entire weekend is a safe space to talk about anything that needs to be talked about, and a safe space to experience the Healing Power of Touch.
It has been a wonderful experience every year that I've been part of it, and this (2006) is my 6th year I believe. The years go so quickly, but the faces and the Hearts - they remain so fresh in my consciousness, that is only seems like a couple of weeks since I've seen everyone!
My Reiki Team Consisted of: Carol Quinones, Denise Tanka, Cathy Francis Blocher, Sharee Laine, and myself (Zach Keyer)

In total, 41 people Received Reiki Sessions this past weekend (6/23/06 6/24/06 6/25/06).
We provided Reiki sessions from:
Friday 6pm --10pm
Saturday 10:30am -- 8:30pm
Sunday 9:45am -- 11:45am
And I have to say that after about 6 hours of doing Reiki, non-stop... I had that oh-so weird experience of thinking my Reiki had turned off... that feeling of "I can't feel my Reiki Anymore!". It's always such a funny experience, because it is short lived... once I went to move my hands to the next hand position that was calling to me... I felt ripples of energy all around my body... and was reassured very strongly that the energy was most definitely around me :)
I had some great interactions over the weekend and wanted to share those:
--------------------------------------
Sun Tattoo:
One Person on the Reiki Table had a tattoo of a sun, and I asked if it had any special meaning for them. They explained that they got the tattoo when they were first diagnosed with HIV, as a reminder that the sun is the most powerful thing that we know here on earth... and it will one day die. Just like us, even though we are each dying, we are still very powerful beings - and we should never forget that!
Bruised Ribs
One guy walked in and hopped up on the table, ready for his session. After the Session this guy said that he felt the pain leave his bruised ribs. And we didn't even know he had bruised ribs... just another testament to Reiki Knowing where to go and what to do!
Relaxation
Numerous people remarked that they hadn't felt this relaxed in years!
--------------------------------------
During the closing, there was a great speech regarding Empowerment. It was explained that we give away our power when we say "Them"... meaning that each time we ask "Why don't They"... it's actually an opportunity for us to say "How can I". It was a very wonderful and profound speech, and extremely fitting for this Healing Weekend. I encourage you to take this to heart and the next time you find yourself asking "Why don't they"... go ahead and step up to the plate, asking yourself "How can I".
I was very touched by all of the Heart-Working that went on this past weekend, and it's still with me today. Actually, I still feel the past Healing Weekends and their profound effect upon me, and I'm so very grateful to have been Heart-Touched by so many Beautiful People!!!
I want to encourage you to do any kind of Reiki volunteering you can -- it is extremely rewarding, especially in the Hearts that you touch.
